Oh boy, placentalicious! Good topic. I've mostly switched over to safer options but it's hard to know what's really safe. The shampoo isle is like facing a daunting wall of chemicals and fragrances coming to get me. I'm trying to avoid things I'm allergic to mostly but I've found I prefer the natural scents. Fewer unpronounceable ingredients seems to mean fewer toxins too. I use Tom's of Maine toothpaste, Dr. Bronner's magic soap, Badger Balm lip balms, and at the moment Desert Essence Organics shampoo and conditioner but I'm probably not going to get it again. It still has some weird ingredients and kinda dries out my hair.
I haven't had much luck with deodorants that really work and are safer. I tried the Tom's of Maine line and a few others and they don't seem to last very long. I like the scents though. I've also tried the Thai Crystal spray deodorant but I can't tell how well it worked, the cold runniness of it made me give up after 2 days. I hardly ever wear make-up so when I do 3 or 4 times a year I don't worry about what's in it so much. I'd like to try a mineral brand at some point but can't really justify buying something I hardly ever use. And perfume I just stay away from.
Also I haven't found a good lotion or sunblock so I'll have to keep looking. If only I weren't so lazy...
I hope you find some good products! It's amazing how many carcinogens and creepy chemicals they can shove into one little bottle. Ah, the joys of science and capitalism.
